I grew up dressing like a boy
Because they said I could never be as pretty
As the others that share my blood.
Mercilessly teased at every attempt,
it seemed pointless to try.

But one day, I woke up and thought:
Maybe my legs are not so embarrassing,
and my shoulders are not something to be ashamed of.

I looked in the mirror and found myself asking,
'Why did I spend so many years covering up?
Why did I let them all get to me?'
